What Is the Book of Ephesians?
The book of Ephesians was a letter written by Paul from Rome while he was in prison (AD 60-62). The book develops the theme of "God's eternal purpose" (3:10-11). It reveals that even before the world was formed (1:4), God elected to save a specific type of person (the obedient) based on the merits of his Son's death upon the cross (1:7; 2:13ff). 

Salvation is enjoyed within an "in-Christ" relationship: this phrase or an equivalent is used thirty-five times in this epistle. 

The book exalts the church as the bride of Christ, who is submissive to her head (Eph. 5:22ff), and notes that one is sanctified and cleansed by means of receiving the word and being washed with water, an idiom for baptism (Eph. 5:25-26).
