EXODUS, BOOK OF

What Is the Book of Exodus?
The name of the second book of the Old Testament means "departure" or "going out." It contains Moses' record of Israel's departure from Egyptian bondage and the nation's separation unto God as a holy body of people. The purpose of these events was in preparation for the coming of the Messiah.

Exodus details the giving of the law of Moses to the Hebrew people. It spans approximately 215 years—from the Hebrews' migration from Egypt to the reception of the law at Sinai.
