Why Is Chronology Important in the Bible?
Biblical chronology has to do with the relationship of the events recorded in Scripture to specific dates. Some events are a bit ambiguous in terms of date. Others are more precise. 

While the Bible does not provide a precise date for the world's creation, two things are clear. 
  • Human history extends back to the very week of the creation of the Universe (Gen. 1; Ex. 20:11; Mk. 10:6; Rom. 1:20). 
  • The genealogical data in the biblical record limits man's longevity to thousands of years, not millions as frequently asserted by evolutionists (Gen. 5; Lk. 3:23ff). 
Other general dates are helpful. 

Abraham lived about 2000 years before Christ, and David reigned approximately 1,000 years before Christ was born. 

Jesus was born around 5/4 B.C. This reckoning considers an error in the early calendar. Conservative Bible scholars generally date his death to A.D. 30. The church was established on Pentecost, fifty days later. 

Nero executed Paul in Rome around A.D. 67. 

The Romans destroyed the city of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, and John penned the final book of the New Testament (Revelation) around A.D. 96.
