What Is the Book of Joel About?

Joel was a prophet of the southern kingdom of Judah, who labored to warn the Hebrew people of the coming "day of the Lord." This day would be a time of judgment on a rebellious people. The punishment is described under a dreaded plague of locusts. Those who remain faithful, however, will be blessed. Joel predicts the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (2:28ff).
